cooking up new friends for Eli ...

Eli and I spent time today with our friends Kristen and Janelle. As you can see, Kristen is 32 weeks pregnant with twins, a boy and a girl! The goal is to keep them cooking as long as possible, probably another couple of weeks. I am excited to take a picture of gigantic Eli in the middle of two tiny little newcomers ... btw, Kristen is posing above with one of my re-gifted baby shower gifts, and she said to tell everyone that it will be making the rounds amongst our friends ...

what can I do by myself?

Every day, Eli is trying out new tricks. Pictured above: what can I use to practice standing?? Pretty much anything, is the answer. He can't quite pull himself to standing yet, but he's got the idea and would do it if he could. He can get to his knees quite easily. Here you also see his eating skills ... the bringing food to mouth is new, but he's better every day.

I had the camera's video setting wrong today so the quality is poor, but I'll post a couple of videos anyhow. Eating, and playing with a top after a special trip to the toy store ... there's also a fun video of J and Eli playing with some newspaper. Enjoy!

standing and boating ...

J got us a little fold-up rowboat that we tried out on the Willamette River last weekend. Eli had fun, and it was a lot to take in -- he was a sleepy boy afterwards! We saw ducks, geese, crows, bluejays and a heron and got to spend some time outside. Also, as you can see, Eli is standing like a pro, and he is starting to walk with help very well. You can tell he is starting to form an agenda ... the agenda has lately included two balloons left over from Kristen's baby shower. He sure loves them and they haven't popped yet ...

Finding new ways to get in trouble ...

As you can see, Eli has begun to explore this world he's been hearing so much about... in the last couple of days, he's learned how to scoot in laps around the furniture, how to operate light switches, and has found this fascinating architectural feature called the stairs ...

#1 ~ Phoebe's leash is his number one destination these days. Too bad for Phoebe ... whenever she hears it jingle, she gets excited for a walk, only to find the kid ready to chase her around...
#2-5 -- looking at the world outside, all by himself is pretty fun ...
#6 ~ not too big to find it all a little nap-worthy ...

swinging and swinging ...

First time at the playground

Last Sunday we took a little family walk to our local playground. Jason swung with Eli and took him on the slide, and I got to carry him in his new backpack (he's too heavy for the front-carrier now!) He had fun at first but the whole experience proved a little overwhelming ... we only stayed for a few minutes and then came home, where he was much more comfortable knocking down blocks!

#1 ~ post-slide ... what just happened mom?
#2 ~ Eli in his pack. I love this picture because it looks like an exoskeleton. I am excited about this new piece of equipment, as we are planning our spring and summer camping schedule. J will be doing some hunting, and Eli and I will be doing some light hiking around our new tent. Our backpack will be perfect for this.
#3 ~ Getting ready to go, self portrait ...
#4 ~ Eli and V in the wetland behind our house
#5 &6 ~ first encounter with a swing ... having fun ...
#7 ~ ... not as much fun anymore, suddenly looking very little still for swings! Phoebe hanging out and watching in the background.

growing and growing ...

It seems that every day now, Eli comes up with a new trick or skill -- he's been paying close attention to the older kids at school I think! He now "scoots" quite proficiently, can move from on his stomach to sitting, is working on pulling himself up to furniture, and can stand at a table. My favorite: a lifetime of kissing ahead of him, and he's learned it this month. We get gummy smacks on the cheeks now. He's eats a lot more and when he's not eating he's on the move! He is diligently exploring our babyproofing of the house, and has found the carbon monoxide detector, the stereo, cords, and his favorite -- Phoebe's leash hanging from the door. Yesterday he was playing and playing with it, finally got bored and wanted to move on, but cried for help because he didn't know how to let go of it on his own. :)

1) Maybe the cutest kid ever
2)Hanging with Big Bird, showing off his new outfit from Grandpa Dave and Grandma Song.
3) Even though he is growing and growing, and we used to look at babies his size as GIANTS, I still can't get over how little he is, and I take pictures like this one so hopefully I can remember later.
4) Eli helps with all our projects!
5) J sent me this picture during my recent business trip to Florida. I was really missing my boys and it really helped to see them having fun!
